Golf Club Review for Scotty Cameron Putters

After yesterdays post about Tiger Woods Swing I thought it would be good to mention that the only club in Tiger Woods bag that isn’t a Nike is his putter. Tiger has been using the same putter since he was 15 apart from having it regripped and lengthened for his own height it is still the same putter. So what is so special about Scotty Cameron Putters?

Well as this morning was my putting practice morning where I go through a number of drills to ensure my routine and line are correct, I decided to raid the pro shop again and give the Scotty Cameron Red X2 a run around the putting green.

A little bit of history about Scotty Cameron Putters, Tiger Woods as we said has it as the only non Nike brand club in his bag, When it was first released the Red X2 was taken up by 9 PGA tour pro’s straight away and in the Masters for the year of release it boasted being in the bag of six players.

Now my trip to the putting green with the Red X2 was quite eventful and I can see why so many tour pro’s would take this putter on without much use. It is a good comfortable weight and the overall feel of the club is one that feels very fluid and gives a confident strike to every putt.

What makes the Scotty Cameron Putters so good? Well the Red X2 comes with three dots which when hidden by the shaft of the club means you are in prime position and you will get the best performance from your putter. The other thing which I liked a lot is that the shaft of the club is directly in line with your ball when you strike it, this means if your club motion is correct then your putting will be very straight.

Sales bumph below:

SCOTTY CAMERON PREOWNED Cameron Red X / X2 putter Good Condition

SCOTTY CAMERON PREOWNED Cameron Red X / X2 putter Good Condition

Scotty Cameron Red X Putter The Red X started out as a concept putter, code named Cabriolet during the initial design, and then introduced to the PGA Tour in 2004. Several Tour players immediately accepted the Red X. It averaged a count of 9 in play during most tournaments and 6 in the bag at the Masters. Most new putters take months to get in play, and usually start with one or two, slowly working up to more. The putter is developing a strong following among touring professionals and amateur players alike. What makes the Red X special is that it s the best of all worlds. It has a stainless steel body, unlike traditional aluminum, and has a stainless steel insert with an elastomer membrane behind and around the insert for great sound and feel. The sole of the design is aluminum to position the weight in the optimal position. Even the inside of the body is precision-milled to keep weight in certain positions and remove it from others. The result is a putter that sounds, feels, and performs optimally, with weighting where it is needed most, back-center and at the equator of the ball. It has 1/4 toe hang for ideal toe flow and a single bend shaft that inspires confidence at address. Scotty could get the perfect shaft bend because of the bore angle where the shaft enters the head. Many prototypes were produced to find the best angle that would create a shaft bend which is sleek and effective. The Red X is a high tech design that performs. The shape of the Red X is clean and simple with a design that has a finished look to frame the ball at address, and a sight line at the true sweet spot. The finish is a light mist to knock down any glare. A red baby-T grip, and a newly designed Red X head cover and shaft band round out the look.

I like the Red X2 it has a good feel and was instantly comfortable without much practice could easily replace my Odyssey putter in the next few months as I go through the process of changing my clubs. So Scotty Cameron Putters get the thumbs up from me!

Golf Club Review | TaylorMade Burner XD Irons

Posted under Clubs Reviewed, Golf Brands, Irons

There are a few sets of irons that I would recommend for the way that they look or for the sheer fact that they would intimidate an opponent! The TaylorMade Burner XD Irons look in a word sexy and they play pretty golf as well. Now these clubs are new for 2008 and I have to say they certainly caught my eye.

I was lucky enough to be able to try both the steel shaft and the graphite shaft which is always nice as there can be cases where the manufacturer gets one of the shafts spot on and the other so very wrong, thankfully in this case both are very nice to use.

Now if you are a high handicapper and you are looking at getting a set of these clubs then you would do well to go with the graphite shaft as it is much more forgiving than the steel. The clubs themselves feel slightly heavier than the King Cobra irons that I play with regularly and this showed by giving an extra few yards on every club.

So why more distance, well those clever bods over at TaylorMade have put a thin flexible titanium face on the Burner XD Irons that increases the ball speed as it leaves the club, they have also used their inverted cone technology (don’t blame me for all the technical bumph it was the guy from TaylorMade that was spurting it out I just relay the information). So once the mand from TaylorMade had gone, I started my bucket of balls test.

Yes they do give you more distance and the clubs feel like they belong in your hands, forgiving and easy on the eye with the supersize head they come through the swing smoothly and stable. Sales information below:

TaylorMade Burner XD Irons - Graphite - New for 2008!

TaylorMade Burner XD Irons - Graphite - New for 2008!

Features Thin, flexible and fast titanium clubface delivers higher COR for faster ball speed and longer distance SuperFast Technology promotes a lightweight shaft plus thin and fast clubface for more clubhead speed, more ball speed and more distance Inverted core technology expands the high COR zone for higher ball speed on mis-hits and more distance from shot to shot Extra large (oversized) clubhead and deep cavity promotes an ultra-high MOI (moment of inertia)

So to answer the question that is always asked, would I buy the TaylorMade Burner XD Irons? I would but they wouldn’t replace my current King Cobra’s because they are what I am used to but if I was looking to go between the new King Cobras and the Taylormade Burner XD then I have to say it would be a close call, I have to say they are the nicest of the irons I have tested in the past 4 months.

Dunlop Golf Clubs

Posted under Golf Brands

Many many moons ago when I was first starting out in golf I started with second hand or Preowned Golf Clubs which was great for the first few months but pretty soon I wanted my own set of clubs without paying through the nose for them. A friend of mine pointed me towards Dunlop Golf Clubs as that was what he was using and seemed to be doing pretty well with them.

Still around and with the backing of John Daly Dunlop golf clubs are still quite popular, one of the main reasons for this is because they offer a great deal of offers on complete golf sets rather than just the irons or just the woods. So I have had a dig around and found 2 deals on Dunlop Golf Clubs that if you are looking for a good deal are well worth a look.
