Golf Club Review | Nike SQ SUMO2 5900 Driver

Let me start by saying if you are looking for a negative review of this club then you have come to the wrong place! The Nike SQ Sumo2 5900 Driver was sat waiting for me in the pro shop when I arrived at the range today, sat there glistening like it was the second coming.

A few days back I tried out the first attempt that Nike had made which I had been putting off because of the fact that the new one was on the horizon. What I wasn’t expecting was a club that was not only a challenger to the old driver but also my beloved King Cobra which has frequented my bag for a while now.

Unlike normal where I would give you the sales bumph there is none that I can post which comes through my usual suppliers. However I do have a picture for you all to drool over:

Nike SQ SUMO2 5900 Driver

The great Tiger Woods has given the Nike SQ Sumo2 5900 Driver the seal of approval saying it is the straightest and longest drives that any golfer can hope for. So when I got my hands on it was I disappointed? In a word NO.

There is a hedge at the end of my local driving range with the regulatory net to stop the ball flying onto the 6th fairway. With this club the golf pro and I decided that the ball will now be close to clearing the fence with my swing then it might be an idea to have the fence made higher.

The feel of the club is light and natural, this comes through in the strike of the ball. Forgiving, straight and very long, an extra 20 yards on my distance.

It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t find something slightly wrong with it and it is a plea to the makers of any square headed golf club please please please bring back that beautiful ting sound that drivers are supposed to make. I live on a golf course and its so much nicer to hear the sound of a ting than the thwack that they all think sounds so powerful! The 5900 is much better but it could still use a little more of a tweak to get that old sound back. Although now much much better than the first attempt.

There is however another snag with the club it retails at the moment at $399 it is a little expensive but if you are looking to add a straight and very long drive to your game then it is money well spent. Austad’s Golf have a great service and I happily recommends them as a supplier for the Nike SQ SUMO2 5900 Driver.

Nike Sumo2 SQ 5900 Driver is a lousy club. Horrible sounding too. Taylormades or Titleists are a 100 times better.

If your a high handicapper and your not hitting this club, then good luck. I can just barely be called a “golfer”. I used to slice 80% of the time with my driver. The Nike Sumo 2 5900 is awesome. My crap hits now look like fades, and those occasional good ones are now amazing. The club added 15 to 20 yards to my drives and as long as the ball starts out heading the correct direction (instead of 90 degrees right) then the ball will be playable on the courses I play. It’s a bunch of money, but if you want to play golf and be able to keep your blood pressure under control (driving anyway) then buy this club, NOW!!! I personally waited too long and should have bought it as soon as it came out.

I tried the Nike SasQuatch Sumo2 5900 Driver at a golf demo days at the Golf World Village, at St. Augistine, this weekend. I have been to many demo days but this driver was the straightest driver that I have ever hit. Just to make sure my swing suddenly improved I used some of the other name brand drivers and my slice came back immedialy . As soon as I went back to the Nike SasQuatch Sumo2 5900 Driver I was hitting straight down the middle again. The same effect was gained by using their 3 wood!

I was hitting a Taylor Made, all over the place, just bought the Sumo2 for around $200 (new). I am enjoying the club, took quite a few holes before I learned you could slice the club, most of the time I get a little fade. The women at the golf shop recommended the club, I’m glad I took her advice. If I can get my inside out swing going, I get a nice draw with it also. Very happy, I know my handicap will be lower next season.

The Sumo2 5900 is definitely the best driver on the market, I added 25 yards to my drive and my friends call me fairway Freddy, simply because i’m always in the middle of the fairway. Just by adding this club to my big i went from a 12 handicap to an 8 handicap. This club gives you instant confidence.

The whole idea of hitting consistent fairways and greens in regulation is confidence in being able to hit your driver.
I have tried Taylor Made, Callaway and Titleist and none of them match the Distance and Accuracy of the Sumo 2 SQ 5900 by Nike.
I also relented and went up to 10.5 degrees for more control instead of lower degrees which caused me to spray my drives.
Make the change to Sumo 2 you will be glad you did!

I demo’d this club at the range just yesterday morning and I would advise you to buy it ASAP. Especially if you’re not a pro, this club can save you a lot of heartache on the course. Besides you have the best golfer in the world’s endorsement. Ping or Thwack it really adds 20 yards+ to your swing and removes some of those slices and dices.

This club is great for players who slice the ball more often than not. My old taylormade superquad was probably 20y longer, but I didn’t hit out the middle enough & a high slice often occured. This club does what it says on the tin, I found more fairways, had less mishits, yes it was shorter but my approach is now not always a recovery shot!! When i do cream this club i hit it miles, the air time is great and the ting is sufferable when the ball hits the fairway. Driving breeds confidence so get one!! you can pick them up for under £100 brand new now ($180)…I am currently a 16 hcp and have shot 6 consecutive rounds around 80-84 gross

I just started golfing about two months ago and have been to the range a dozen times and played 2 rounds of golf. The old driver I had was a handme down Callaway Big Bertha Steelhead (older) from my dad. I was able to hit it about 200 yards but sliced it horribly almost everytime. Even when I scaled my swing down it still sliced everytime. Splurged and bought this a week ago and immediately went to the range to try it out. Everything I hit goes perfectly straight. I mean I now literally swing for the fences with every ounce of energy and about 90% of my drives go perfectly straight. This club is amazing. I can hit the ball about 220-230 on a string! I don’t have much experience with other clubs but all I can say is if your a beginner looking for a shortcut to better golf this is it!

I went from hitting a 10.5 degree Callaway to a 9.5 degree Nike Sumo2 and I hit the ball higher and longer than i ever have before. I even got a friend to change his mind about buying a Callaway by letting him hit it. It is by far the best, easiest club to hit I have ever owned.

Hi, I am from the Czech Republic – Europe. I was offered to buy the Sumo 2 SQ 5900 by Nike (10,5, Regular) for slightly reduced price. I was realy surprised to discover abilities of this club. My HCP is 23 and after three demo’d this club at the range I believe in rapid decrease of it. Drives were realy longer. As far as acurracy is concerned, after 5th shot I was able to keep the accuracy in range of +/- 5m/240m. Unbeliveable !
