Callaway HX Tour Golf Ball gives Great Distance

Posted under Golf Balls by Swinger

I have been out today with a new golf ball, I have been using Nike One or Titleist Gold over the past few months and have been very happy with their performance. However having found a good deal on some Callaway HX Tour balls I thought I would give them a try and I have to say I am glad I did.

The information on these balls says that they maximizes distance at the same time providing a soft feel and spin for the short game, ticks in all the boxes on this. Having taken a nasty knock on my elbow during a round last week I was concious of the fact that if I went for my usual positioning off of the tee on the first hole this morning I could find myself short and in the trees. I picked up an extra 15 yards which I can only really put down to the new ball.

Having had a reasonably good feeling on the first drive the second hole requires a carry of the water if you stay to the right of the fairway so I gave it a full swing to see if the distance was as good as I had experienced on the first hole. The extra distance was all carry getting an extra 20 yards on my normal driving position for this hole. And keeping the ball out of the water saved me more than just two shots as these balls are not that cheap.

The ball has a HEX aerodynamics replacing the usual dimples, this means hat the dimples in the ball are hexagonal which apparently helps with the ball flight, its all the technical bumph that comes with the sales pitch which is below:

Callaway HX Tour Golf Balls The best performing balls in golf just got better. Manufactured with RIM (Reaction Injection Molding) technology to provide a thinner, more consistent cover and a precisely centered core. HEX Aerodynamics provides a stable ball flight with 100% surface area coverage for optimal lift and drag characteristics, while the virtually seamless geometry allows for consistent performance on every shot. The improved HX Tour is longer and more durable than the original tour-proven HX Tour. It s designed to go deep down the fairway while providing ample spin around the greens. This great golf ball maximizes distance while providing soft feel, short game spin and durability. This optimized combination of cover softness, thinness and consistency is accomplished by the advanced proprietary Reaction Injection Molding (RIM) process. HEX Aerodynamics replaces conventional dimples and virtually eliminates the seam, enhancing shot-to-shot consistency and reduces drag for long, efficient ball flight with amazing stability. A new manufacturing technique results in six deeper depressions in the surface geometry – Sub-HEX design – creating a thinner, more consistent cover and a precisely centered core for more stability, consistency and a tour-type trajectory. This is Callaway Golf s most technologically advanced golf ball design. Three-piece construction with urethane cover. Used by Phil Mickelson!

OK as warned they are not cheap a box of 12 brand new from the shop shelf (or the buy button above) will set you back $39.99, HOWEVER the link below will get you logo over run (it means they have a corporate logo on the ball somewhere) that if you can cope with that will save you $10 per box!

If you play in competitions and don’t lose many golf balls then I would say that the Callaway HX Tour golf ball is well worth investing in. I heard a rumor that they float as well but as yet I haven’t tried this for myself!

  1. Ivan Said,

I think its interesting how much technology has been poured into golf balls. I was at the PGA merchandise show in Orlando earlier this month and noticed tons of new golf tees.

My favorite is the Koviss ProSpring tee. It is supposed to last 18 rounds of golf and reduce spin and resistance. Its pretty cool. Check em out at http://www.kovissamerica.com.

I tried them at a driving range and i think they really do make a difference.
