Major Competitions
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
When you see the big competitions on television and you see the professional golfers standing on the first tee its is easy to think that it is the first time they have ever seen the course. Having just spent the evening with one of the caddies on the European tour it is not only obvious that it is not the case but pretty clear that as spectators the hard work is all missed!
Swinging the driver off the first tee in the Volvo Masters sees years of preparation put into the motion and getting the opportunity to see the big guns in action is something that the major players look forward to. It is also easy to see how nervous these players can be with the changing weather pattens of Andalucia this time of the year as well as the course being a little more demanding than others they have played over the competition.
As for the work that the caddy has put in before hand they have walked the course the first day they arrive which is the Monday, the second day is all about getting the player familiar with the course, this is important if they are expecting to do well on the competition days. By the Wednesday the caddy has walked the course twice already and are almost ready to go ahead. There is however the little issue of the ProAm to take into consideration, this it where the members of the club they are playing at get to benefit from the players being there and get to play a round with those players. So the Caddy has walked the course 3 times by the time they get to that first tee. Its a lot of work when you think about what you actually see on TV!
Tomorrow I am going to be observing the Volvo Amateur World Final at La Quinta but on Friday and on the final round Sunday I will be viewing the stresses and strains of a major golfing competition first hand! I am also hoping to catch some of the major names as they come off the final green at both competitions! Busy few days ahead but hope to be bringing you some major information as it happens right here at Online Golfer.

Basically Golf
People who play golf very rarely realize the number of hours that actually go into golf tournament planning. This week sees two major golf tournaments in the South of Spain the Volvo Masters at Valderama and the Volvo Amateur Championship Final at la Quinta. I am lucky enough to be going to Valderama and I will be watching with great interest the La Quinta Competition from the comfort of my terrace.
And it is because I am so close that I am able to watch the ongoing planning and preparation for the first tee off on Wednesday morning.
The weather forecast can change the plans that are in place in minutes and I have to say the wind tonight as I type this has increased and the forecast for tomorrow is for it to stay windy which should make the warm up rounds tomorrow very interesting.
I will be bringing you more information over the course of the 4 days of competition and hopefully get some inside scoops from the players at both La Quinta and Valderama.

Clubs Reviewed
When I first started out playing golf I had the cheapest nastiest second hand set of golf clubs that I could afford. Then when I could afford to buy a good set of new clubs the ones I wanted were too expensive for me! Typical hey? So when I found myself in a position to buy a set of King Cobra Golf Clubs I made sure that they were exactly what I wanted.
When buying new clubs I like to make sure I get a good round out of them before I start dipping in my pocket for my hard earned money. I normally go into a golf shop or hire a set of clubs that I want to try and either take them to the range or take them out for a good 18 holes.
With my King Cobra Golf Clubs after 10 mins on the range I was ready to buy but the money that the shop wanted for the clubs was outrageous as unfortunately a great deal of golf shops are. So I headed home for an internet connection. After hunting around for about an hour I found a great deal and ordered straight away.
My set of King Cobra Golf Clubs have been a god send for my game and I have just had the grips replaced as my handicap has dropped from 21 to 16 in a few short months. Worth every cent.

Golf Balls
I was hunting around for good deals on Callaway Golf Balls the other day and was lucky enough to find on a site that I have used a number of times a deal that is pretty damn good.
Callaway golf get asked on a number of occasions to produce golf balls with logos on for clubs, companies and competitions. The thing is there are always over runs on the print runs so they have a large number of balls that they can’t sell in the shops but they are still the same quality golf ball that the ones without the logo are.
I used to get lake balls but this is the same price I would have paid for the lake balls. Somehow with 3 billion balls a year ending up in lakes and bushes, yes thats 3 BILLION, I think it is a good deal to be able to get my favorite golf ball at a reduced price!
So Callaway Preowned Golf have a dozen balls for $10.99 which in my eyes is a fantastic deal. So if you are interested in a good deal on Callaway Golf Balls and can put up with them having a distinctive logo on the side I would say its a good deal.

Basically Golf
I am lucky enough to live on what is known as the Costa del Golf so I have a number of golf courses close to where I live. One of which is one of the best par 3 golf courses I have ever come across. Why do I like shorter courses? Because they improve my game on the longer courses.
Being able to play a good short game is essential to anyone who is trying to improve their game or reduce their handicap would do well to ensure they spend time on par 3 golf courses. Practicing on the range is a great way to get your game improved but many people have a good long game but a poor short game and for some it is the other way around.
I play the par 3 golf courses more often because my short game is not as good as my long, I spend time on the driving range but because of the fact that my short game gets a good work out on the shorter course I practice my distances with each club and leave my chipping and shorter play to this method
