Golf balls are the vital pieces that constitute the greatest difference in golf. A lot of technologies and performance heuristics go behind golf balls and today one could find an assorted collection of golf balls making the comparison all the more hard. There are people who opine that golf balls made today fly far and straight as compared to older generation golf balls, thereby making it easy to play golf even in hard to play courses.

Given these advancements in golf balls, it is important to compare the different types of golf balls available in the market and locate the right kind of golf ball. Golf balls should fit the player as much as golf clubs or any other golf equipment. It is an important role of a golf player to locate the golf ball that best suits and enhances the swing and the style. To arrive at this decision it is important to perform a comparison of the golf balls in the market today.

Golf ball comparisons could be carried out from a variety of perspectives but basically a golf ball could be two-piece ball or a three-piece ball or a four-piece ball.

A two-piece golf ball is also called as ‘distance ball’. It is highly suitable for a golf player with a less experience and it has a high strength. The design of a two piece golf ball as opposed to the other varieties of golf balls; helps in the creation of topspin and adding additional distance. Two piece golf balls are not easily controllable round the green and they don’t spin to a great extent, but they do release nicely towards the hole. Two piece golf balls have become increasingly softer and these golf balls are giving golf players with comparatively lower swing pace more distance than usual.

A Three-piece golf ball is used by low to mid handicappers as well as the experts. A three piece golf ball has a durable but soft urethane cover, a thin middle portion (called a mantle) and an inner core made of rubber. Three piece balls are soft and they respond well to spin. Further they put really well and have a relatively good distance. Three piece golf balls are slightly expensive than two piece balls and these golf balls are intended for people with a faster club-head pace.

A Four-piece golf ball has a great deal of similarity with a three-piece golf ball but a four piece golf ball also has an additional firm mantle layer. This additional layer passes on the additional energy given during impact into the rubber core for more low spin distance. Four piece golf balls are suitable only for players with enormously great club-head speeds.

All of these golf balls have some common layers upon comparison.

The cover is the outer surface of the golf ball, composed using urethane rendering it virtually indestructible. Dimples are the small markings on the outer cover usually three hundred to five hundred in number controlling the aerodynamics for a trajectory (lower or higher). Core is the solid rubber centre that is the main portion of a golf ball and this segment helps in controlling the distance.

Comparisons between Golf Balls could also be made based on the type of game that the golf balls support. The major classifications that could be arrived at based on comparisons of golf balls from this perspective are Distance golf balls, Spin golf balls and Control golf balls.

Distance golf ball is designed to jump from the face of the golf club at a high speed resulting in an additional distance. Distance golf balls are suitable for getting extra ten to twenty yards distances off the tee; and the control around the greens is not as important.

A Spin golf ball flies with a higher trajectory allowing it to stop better with optimum backspin on the greens. Spin golf balls are used by the low handicappers and experts willing to give up a little bit of distance to get a better and faster stopping result.

A Control golf ball for a person who wishes to eliminate the nasty ‘hook’, ‘slice’ and ‘ballooning’ shots. Control golf balls have a little lesser spin (both on the top and on the side) that allows having more control on windy days.

You will also have the accessories that go along with the balls such as ball mark repair tools, ball retrievers and the practice shag bags.
